In he workout section of this website there is a "Basic Workout" listed.
My details: I'm not a fighter, i'm close to 40 years old but physically active. I'm looking for a new workout routine, something I can do without any equipment.
1. If I use the basic workout, how many times a week should I do it?
2. Should I add some running or swimming to program? |

Hi,
i'm also not a fighter. I do a somewhat changed "basic workout" more or less twice a week . I also like to mix some BWE's like push ups and pull ups in my running routines.
I think it depends all on how you feel. Best thing would be to try it yourself.
best regards,

2) running and swimming is always good if you like it, do it!
1)train as often as you like as long as you feel good doing it. there is no point in "forcing" yourself into training! you have to want it, it will work then
as letigre said, best thing is trying out or something

If you don't put enough effort into a routine you don't get results.
So your saying I can do this routine everyday? Its up to me and how I feel. |

It also depends on the kind of physical activities you did before. If you mainly trained your endurance yet (e.g.: swimming, jogging etc.), I guess it's better to rest at least every second day (or do your endurance program).
In general it's up to you and how you feel. Many people train every day without having problems. I mix endurance, bodyweight and martial arts training so I do different sports nearly everyday. Even though I was also physically active before, I had to get used to it and overtrained a lot in the beginning.
Same goes for just endurance or just strength training. When you change the kind of sport you will benefit from preceding activities, but still your body has to attune to the use of different muscles, different kinds of endurance etc.
Try out and your body will tell you if it's too much.
BTW welcome to fighter-fitness! |

You can also do some Running with Pushups every 250 meter or similar.
I would split it up in a heavy day,an easy day with some endurancework and an Roadwork day! |

If you are just interested in general fitness I would suggest to have balance between cardio training and strength training.
Squats are a great way do built leg strength while working also on your cardio.
Keep it simple. Squats, Push Ups, Pull Ups, Running
Take care

Hogi: I already do stuff like that while jogging. I mix in pushups, Burpees, pull ups, sprints, squats. I like to sweat.
I used the basic workout 2 times now. I try not to take any breaks, do the entire thing in one shot. Upper body routine was a bit easy for me. Lower body, I couldn't complete all the lunges, had to drop number of reps. Which was a surprise because I consider legs my strong point, but I haven't done any lunges in a long time. By the time I got to last 50 squats, I did about 23. I do a lot of stretching before and afterwards.
What is a pull up ladder? I replaced that with 3 sets of pull ups to failure, 20 second rest inbetween.
Call me scank but i've been looking at Scrappers workout: http://www.trainforstrength.com/workout1.shtml
thanks for all the feedback. |

| The pull up ladder is the same as what's called pyramide at trainforstrength.com. It's a nice way to make more reps of pull-ups or whatever. Ladder from 1-5 means you start with 1 rep, then 2, then 3 and so on. So you made 15 reps instead of your max. 7 for example. |
